Confidence After 40 Is About More Than What You Wear
For many women over 40, confidence after 40 is not about becoming bolder or more fashionable. It is about feeling comfortable being seen as the woman you are today.
Sometimes a new outfit really does give us a lift.
You put on a color that makes your eyes look brighter, add a favorite pair of earrings, catch yourself in the mirror and think, Oh, there I am.
I love those moments. In fact, helping women experience more of them is a big part of what I do.
But I have also learned something through the hundreds of women I have had the privilege of working with. Confidence after 40 is about so much more than what you wear.
It is about feeling comfortable being seen. It is about trying something new. It is about saying yes to an invitation, or sometimes being the woman brave enough to extend one.
And often, confidence grows when we are surrounded by other women who remind us of something we may have forgotten about ourselves.
Confidence After 40 Can Look Different Than It Used To
Maybe confidence used to mean walking into the boardroom prepared for a presentation.
Now it might mean walking into a room where you do not know anyone and introducing yourself.
Maybe it means wearing the sleeveless top.
Trying the brighter color.
Putting on the statement earrings instead of leaving them in the jewelry box because you are “only” going to the grocery store.
Maybe it means booking the appointment you have been curious about, joining a group of women you do not know yet, or inviting a few girlfriends over for an afternoon together.
There is no one way confidence is supposed to look.
And that is one of the things I love most about this stage of life.
We get to discover what confidence looks like now.
Sometimes We Need Another Woman to Help Us See Ourselves Differently
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to see something wonderful in another woman?
You notice her beautiful smile.
You tell her that color looks amazing on her.
You compliment her earrings.
You encourage her to try the blouse she is convinced she cannot wear.
Yet when we look at ourselves, we can be much less generous.
That is one reason I believe connection with other women matters so much, particularly as we move through our 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.
Life changes.
Our bodies change.
Our roles change.
Children grow up. Careers shift. We become grandmothers. Some women retire, others start businesses, and some discover completely new interests they never had time to explore before.
Through all of those changes, it is easy to become so focused on taking care of life that we forget to pay attention to the woman living it.
Then another woman says:
“That looks so good on you.”
“Try it!”
“You should come with us.”
And suddenly we see a possibility we might not have seen on our own.

Community Builds Confidence in Ways a Closet Cannot
Please do not misunderstand me, I love a good closet!
Confidence after 40 can grow when we stop trying to figure everything out alone and allow other women to encourage us along the way.
I believe knowing your best colors matters. Understanding how to dress the body God gave you matters. Learning how to style an outfit instead of simply wearing clothes matters.
Those tools can make getting dressed easier and help you feel more like yourself when you walk out the door.
But I have also watched something beautiful happen when women learn these things together.
One woman is draped in a color that makes her come alive, and her friends see it immediately.
Someone tries something outside her usual comfort zone, and another woman cheers her on.
There is laughter. There are stories. There are those wonderful little moments of, “Oh my goodness, I never knew that!”
Color may open the door, but what happens between the women in the room can be every bit as meaningful.
That is one reason community has become such an important part of Radiate with Royanna.
I want women to have places where they can learn, ask questions, encourage one another and have FUN while doing it.
Because life is meant to be joyful.
Confidence Can Mean Being the Woman Who Creates the Connection
This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately.
As adults, we can become very good at waiting.
Waiting for someone to organize the dinner.
Waiting for someone to suggest getting together.
Waiting until the house looks better.
Waiting until everybody’s schedule settles down.
Waiting for the invitation.
But what if confidence sometimes looks like being the woman who sends the invitation?
“Come over for coffee.”
“Let’s get the girls together.”
“I found something fun for us to do.”
Recently, a woman contacted me after someone referred her to me. She had a group of women coming to stay with her, and they were looking for something different they could experience together.
Someone suggested having a color party.
And one detail about that conversation made me smile.
The youngest woman in the group was 72.
I loved that.
Women in their 70s still want to laugh together, learn something new, discover what makes them look and feel wonderful, and create memories with their friends.
Why wouldn’t they?
There is no expiration date on curiosity, connection or confidence.
Sometimes confidence after 40 looks less like having all the answers and more like being willing to make the first move.
A Color Party Is Really About More Than Color
Of course, I am going to teach about color at a color party.
We are going to discover things.
We are probably going to have a few surprises.
Someone may discover that the color she has avoided for years is actually fabulous on her. Another woman may finally understand why one version of a color makes her glow while another one seems to wear her.
But there is another part of these gatherings that I love.
Women are together.
They are talking.
They are laughing.
They are learning about themselves and one another.
They are encouraging each other.
And for a little while, they have stepped away from the to-do lists and responsibilities and given themselves permission to enjoy being women together.
That is not frivolous.
That is connection. And that kind of connection can be a beautiful part of building confidence after 40.
And sometimes we need a reason to put something fun on the calendar.
Could You Be the Woman Who Gathers Them?
Maybe as you are reading this, a few faces are already popping into your mind.
Your sisters.
Your neighbors.
Women from church.
Former coworkers.
Your girlfriends from high school.
The women you keep saying you need to get together with.
Maybe you don’t need to wait for a special occasion.
Create one.
If gathering a few women for a color experience sounds fun, I bring the color party to you. You provide the women, and I bring the color, education, laughter and discovery.
It can be a wonderful way to reconnect while doing something that feels fresh and different.
Mindset: What Confidence After 40 Really Looks Like
One of the most important things I want women to understand is that this isn’t about becoming a new person.
You do not need to dress like someone on Instagram.
You do not need to chase every trend.
You do not need to have the perfect body, the perfect closet or the perfect house before you invite people into your life.
Confidence isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about embracing who you already are and continuing to grow into the woman God created you to be.
That shift in mindset changes so much.
Instead of asking:
Am I too old for this?
Try asking:
Does this feel like me?
Instead of:
What will everybody think?
Try:
Do I feel confident in this?
Instead of waiting until everything is perfect:
Who could I encourage by reaching out today?
Confidence grows through small choices.
That is what I love about confidence after 40. It doesn’t require a dramatic makeover. Sometimes it begins with one brave little yes.
Wear the color.
Add the sparkle.
Send the text.
Open the door.
Show up.
We Were Created for Connection
I believe God created us for relationship, not isolation.
Hebrews 10:24 (NIV) says:
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
I love the idea of women spurring one another on.
Sometimes that looks very profound.
Sometimes it looks like praying for a friend who is walking through something difficult.
And sometimes it might look like saying, “Girl, put on those earrings. They look fabulous on you!”
Encouragement doesn’t always have to be complicated to matter.
A kind word can change someone’s day.
An invitation can make someone feel remembered.
A room full of women laughing together can remind us that joy is still very much available to us.
Showing Up for Yourself Is Not Vanity
This connects to something I talk about often.
Caring about how you present yourself does not mean you are vain.
Taking time to get dressed, wear colors that flatter you, add an accessory you love, or learn how to work with the body God gave you isn’t about chasing perfection.
It can simply be a way of saying:
I still matter.
I am worth caring for.
I am worth showing up for.
And when we begin showing up for ourselves, something interesting often happens.
We become more willing to show up for other people too.
We say yes more easily.
We initiate.
We participate.
We connect.
That is the kind of confidence I want women to experience.
What If Your Best Season Is the One You’re In Right Now?
There are things about myself today that I could not have imagined years ago.
Some of the biggest growth in my own life and business has happened in my 50s.
I have learned new things.
I have stepped into opportunities that stretched me.
I have met incredible women.
I have discovered new ways to use gifts God had already placed in me.
And I am still learning.
Still growing.
Still becoming.
That is what I want for the women in my world too.
Your life does not need to look the way it did at 30.
Your style doesn’t either.
The goal isn’t to go backward.
The opportunity is to embrace the woman you are today and move forward with greater clarity, joy and confidence.
Confidence Is the Destination
Confidence after 40 may begin in unexpected places. Women may first find me because they are curious about color.
Someone else may want help figuring out what to wear.
Another woman might come for jewelry, body styling, a closet session, or simply because a friend invited her to something fun.
Those are all wonderful doorways.
But underneath all of them is something deeper.
Confidence.
For me, confidence after 40 is less about having everything figured out and more about being willing to keep showing up.
The confidence to be seen.
The confidence to try.
The confidence to gather.
The confidence to show up as yourself.
And sometimes, the confidence to look at another woman and remind her that she deserves to radiate too.
So perhaps you don’t need another outfit today.
Maybe what you need is to wear something you already love, put on a little sparkle, and text the women you’ve been meaning to see.
You never know what might begin with one invitation.
Confidence after 40 isn’t about turning back the clock. It’s about deciding you’re not done showing up.
STYLE. COLOR. SPARKLE. CONFIDENCE.
